Broadway - The Origin And History
Broadway was instituted in the early 20th Century. The first marquee that was lit up was of a theatre where Fifth Avenue crossed Broadway on 23rd Street. Cats, which debuted in October 1982, and stopped production in September 2000, was the longest running show in the history of Broadway until January 2006, when The Phantom of the Opera, surpassed it with its 7,486th performance. Whew!!
